Connecting With Us

With The River as your home church, giving of yourself through volunteering on our team is a fabulous way to meet great friends and contribute to God’s house. Anyone who calls The River their home church can get involved in a volunteer team and we’ll do our best to find the right team for you. Every role has an assigned leader who will help you every step of the process ensuring that you will be successful at what you put your hand to. With a choice of so many teams to join at The River, there’s room for your gifting and something for everyone.

As with all responsibility, there’s expectations to being on team. To find out more about what’s expected from team at church, have a look below.

Vision Carrier Nights

We expect that all volunteers make it a priority to attend Vision Carrier Nights of which there are three a year [dates below]. This is an evening of encouragement, envisioning, laughter and inspiration.

Showing Up

It is said that the the strength of any team is as strong as it’s weakest link. The strength and friendships of all teams are built on faithfulness through consistency and reliability. It’s generally expected that those on team are available to serve 3 out of 4 weeks in a month. However we understand that we all deserve a holiday; are students and need to study and go home for break time and of course there are circumstances where we can’t serve. On such occasions, clear communication with team leaders will provide you with the support and understanding that you require.

Meetings

Most of our teams will meet early morning or weeknights or before and after Sunday services for essential team stuff like briefs and debriefs. The team is expected to attend these meetings, if need be and will be arranged in consultation with all on the team to diarise the most convenient time for all.

Gifting vs Passion

HERE you will find a link to all the volunteer posts available at The River. They change all the time so come back often to see what is available. Although there is a lot of talk in the body of Christ right now about passion we are much more concerned about what Christ has gifted you as. In Eph 4:11 you will note that when Christ ascended on high He gave gifts to men – not passion. So you may not have a passion for children but be gifted as an administrator, but because you lack the passion feel that you are disqualified from serving in what has to be one of the finest departments of The River – KIDS Church. We however, do not feel that you are disqualified because we are looking for the gifts that Christ made you to be and therefore you would be just the person we are looking for.

Every volunteer at The River has a passion for The House so we already have ‘passion’ covered. Because you have a passion for The House your gifting is transferable from one department to another. Your passion is to see The House as a whole prosper rather than just have  a ‘party spirit’ and only want one room in The House to be blessed. So you need never feel that you are ‘stuck’ in one department.
