No-one cares how much you know until they know how much you care. The River is all about a God, Who is all about people. As The River continues to move forward with care, compassion and the cross we are constantly increasing our ability to finding hurts and healing them and finding needs and meeting them. As we do this we are increasing in the love of God and our neighbour.

GLOBAL CARE

Kondanani

Hundreds of children are orphaned or abandoned in Malawi everyday. HIV/AIDS has reached epidemic levels. Mothers who have contracted HIV often die during child birth. Those that don’t die, often abandon their children in the hope that they will be found by someone who will be able to care for them. The extended family, once so prevalent in the African culture, has been eroded due to poverty and HIV/AIDS.
This has left an enormous burden on those remaining.

Kondanani, a non-governmental Christian organization, was established in November 1998 to offer hope to the orphaned children of Malawi.

Mercy Ministries

Mercy Ministries is dedicated to providing a six-month residential programme for young women suffering from life-controlling issues such as eating disorders, self harm, depression, and the effects of abuse in all it’s forms.

With over 25 years of experience they address all aspects of a young woman’s well being – physical, spiritual and emotional – and deal with the root cause of her issues. We desire that every young woman not only completes the programme but also discovers the purpose for her life and returns to her community adding value as a productive citizen.

Mercy Ministries UK, a national charity, helps young women between the ages of 18-28, who display a sincere desire to change.

Loving others and being loved is a core value of our church. No person is exempt from times when life can present challenges to us that can be overwhelming, so we are here as the arm that upholds you, the hand that feeds you the Bread of Life and the voice that brings you hope and peace.

Pastoral Care is for those who are experiencing a crisis; or for those needing some-one to chat to over a nice cup of tea; or perhaps it’s good news you’d like to share with us like making The River your home church or an engagement or wedding – we’d love to come alongside you and provide support and strength where we are able. Here are some of the facets of the pastoral care we offer:

Funerals

We understand one of the most difficult times in a person’s life is the passing of a loved one. For those suffering from bereavement we are aware of the challenges, difficulties and loss at such times and where you would like support, our pastoral team is committed to providing care and practical help as wanted or needed.

Hospital Visitation

At The River we count it a privilege to be to able pray and give support to people who are sick or undergoing major surgery, including helping their families with child care and meals where necessary. Marriage Enrichment

Many people do not see the reason for Marriage Enrichment for three reasons:

Premarital Preparation

An engaged couple that goes through an effective premarital training program is 80% better off in a better marriage and avoiding divorce. Tailored to meet every couple’s needs with a minimum of 6 once a week sessions. This course will provide wisdom, insight and truth into the strengths and challenges that present themselves on the course, together with mutual problem solving tools to help enrich your relationship and reach mutual goals. Prison Ministry

We reach out to incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them; to bring sustainable meaning and hope in the place of loneliness, isolation and despair.
